Mt. Washmore

I hate laundry.

Seriously, I hate it.

I was going to take a few baskets of laundry to our laundry room tonight since they're bigger machines and I can wash and dry 3 loads at once. It's about a 5 minute walk across the complex and isn't so far...except it's dark and it's creepy being in that small shed-sized building when you can't tell if someone is standing outside the window. I'm sure I've just watched too many scary movies but I couldn't make myself go.

Instead I'll wash half a load at a time and then run the dryer 2 or 3 times to get it dry. I know I should be grateful that I have a washer/dryer in my apartment (even a stackable) but sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. I don't have a laundry room just a closet barely big enough for the unit. Right now I have at least 1 load of laundry on my bed waiting for me to get around to folding and putting it away...it's been there about a week. The ironing board is set up next to my bed, not so I can iron but so I have somewhere to hang stuff up after I put it on the hanger.

Ok, enough of that pity party. It's just laundry, not a crisis.

oh how I hate laundry.

Baby steps

It's Saturday morning and I'm here in my pajamas. I couldn't sleep last night (thanks to 60 mph winds) so I didn't get up until 9 am and now I'm checking emails and, well, blogging.

I need to work on my car today and run a few errands but other than that, I have the whole day to "relax" since Jr's basketball game isn't until 8 pm. I'll probably just get some laundry done, straighten up the front room, stuff like that.

Although I'm very tempted to go back to bed.

Getting it straight in 2008!

Happy New Years!

My new motto for 2008 is - Getting it straight in 2008!

I have been feeling run down for the past little while and have been doing the bare essentials to keep CHAOS from taking over my life...but it hasn't been enough. I had a lot of time off around Christmas and I had so much I wanted to get done but didn't...another reminder that it's easier to try babysteps.

So far today I've taken a shower and gotten dressed - I'll put on my shoes as soon as I find another sock. I've got a load going in the washer and I'm about to do drink my breakfast (a Slim Fast Ultima ready-to-drink shake).

Jr is at my parent's house so my goal for today is to get things going in his room. He's 10 1/2 and has really outgrown most of his toys. (he told me today that all he really wants to keep is his Legos and Bionicles.) My usual approach would be to try to get everything out of here at once but I know from experience that it would be too overwhelming. We're basically stripping everything out of his room - bookshelves, old cd players, videos & books he's outgrown, costumes, sports stuff he doesn't use - and taking it down to the bare minimum. That isn't something I can do in a day.

So for now I want to get the toys and things where they would go so I can decide where to start. A lot of the stuff is sitting in boxes from his summer organizing session with my dad - but he's gone thru the boxes a few times so now everything is just messy. I can't just take the boxes to DI or throw the stuff away so an organizing session (on my own) seems to make sense. I'll be happy if by the end of the day I can vacuum his floor.

Have a great day!
